Even though One UI 8.5 is based on the same version of Android as One UI 8.0, it still brings major UI changes and lots of new features. Samsung could open the One UI 8.5 Beta Program any day now, but ahead of the official announcement, we brought you the first look at One UI 8.5 running on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
We now have a video showing the software in motion. It is based on an internal beta build of the software, so not everything is working as smoothly and reliably as possible. You can watch the video below.
One UI 8.5 brings a completely customizable Quick Panel to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. You can add or remove any quick setting toggle, change the position and size of controls, and even make some of them vertical. The Camera app now has an option to save images and videos to external storage.
The Settings app now has a cleaner look, as Samsung has removed sub-section labels. The search bar is now pill-shaped and resides towards the bottom of the screen, which makes it easier to access. The Battery and Device Care sections of the Settings app have also received design tweaks to make the UI appear more concise and visually appealing.
Stock apps have moved from an end-to-end width tab bar design to a pill-shaped compact tab bar design. The search button is now overlaid towards the top right corner of the screen in all the stock apps, and when you scroll down, the Back and Search buttons are still visible in an overlay style.
Not all stock apps have received the design upgrade yet. As you can see in the video, Samsung Health still has the old tab bar design. Furthermore, the Camera app appears to be missing some capture modes, indicating further development is needed before Samsung can release the beta version of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S24 series.
