According to market research firm Canalys, the Galaxy S24 Ultra was the world's best-selling high-end Android phone in 2024. It ranked ninth on the list of the world's best-selling smartphones. This shows how well ahead Samsung is compared to other Android smartphone brands in the high-end segment.
You can see the complete rankings in the image below.
Ranking fourth on the list is the Galaxy A15, which was the world's best-selling Android smartphone when you consider all price points. The Galaxy A15 5G ranked eighth, becoming the world's best-selling 5G smartphone.
Compared to the previous year, Samsung appears to have done better in 2024, as there was no high-end phone from Samsung on the list in 2023. There were two low-end and one mid-range phone. In the new list, there are two low-end phones and one flagship phone.
There are seven iPhones on the list. The iPhone 15 was the world's best-selling smartphone last year. The iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro Max ranked second and third, respectively. The iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 13 ranked fifth, sixth, seventh, and tenth respectively.
Despite sporting some eye-popping specifications, none of the high-end specifications from Chinese brands like Honor, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi have made it to the list of best-selling phones. This shows it takes much more than features and hardware specifications to sell phones in numbers.
Samsung has made a name for itself globally over the years with numerous innovations in design and hardware, software stability, and after-sales service. However, it needs to do better if it has any intention of catching up with Apple in the high-end segment.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra brought a brighter screen with an anti-reflective panel, a titanium side frame, a solid camera system overall, and seven years of software update promise. Moreover, it introduced AI-powered useful features. All of this made people take notice and attracted millions of buyers
