For years, we have hoped that Samsung would eventually learn from its strongest rivals and redesign the Galaxy Book laptop series with a better trackpad and a more ergonomic keyboard design in mind. And this year, our wishes are finally coming true.

Samsung's new Galaxy Book 6 laptops, unveiled today, are the first in the series to feature centered trackpads even in the 16-inch models. Likewise, even the larger 16-inch models have finally abandoned the dedicated number pad in favor of a more centered keyboard.

A better feel and way more flexibility through software

The two design changes go hand-in-hand. By removing the numpad, Samsung can relocate both the keyboard and the trackpad closer to the center, improving typing comfort and ergonomics.

Why this laptop layout redesign really matters

It may not seem like a good idea in theory, but in practice, it works. The issue with numpads and off-center trackpads on laptops is that they force the user to keep their arms and hands at an angle. This offset position is uncomfortable, especially in long typing sessions.

Granted, you lose the numpad, which can be a problem if you work with numbers, but for most users, the benefits of a centered layout greatly outweigh the downsides of a missing numpad.

All three models unveiled today, i.e., the Galaxy Book 6, Galaxy Book 6 Pro, and Galaxy Book 6 Ultra, are available in 14 and 16-inch sizes. And every single model has a tenkeyless keyboard and centered trackpad design.

This new, balanced design is also reflected through the relocated Samsung logo on the lid of the laptops. Appropriately, the 2026 models carry the Samsung logo in the center. They are the first in the series to do so.

On a final note, while the higher-tier Book 6 Pro and Book Ultra models have larger and wider trackpads, the base Book 6 model is stuck with a smaller one. Either way, Samsung appears to have kept the narrower (seemingly 4:3) aspect ratio of the trackpads on all Book 6 models.
