Qualcomm, at the Snapdragon Summit 2025, launched its new flagship chipset for mobile devices, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and suggested that Samsung may use it for the Galaxy S26 series, as well as its new flagship SoC for laptops, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, which we may see in future Samsung laptops. However, those weren’t the only announcements. The brand also announced Snapdragon Guardian for the Snapdragon X2 Elite series.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon Guardian technology will allow businesses and consumers to locate their laptops, as well as lock and wipe these devices, even when they are not connected to the internet, powered off, or aren’t bootable. Qualcomm says that this technology uses the 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity built into the Snapdragon X2 Elite series chipset to let businesses and consumers remotely manage their laptops.
Qualcomm hasn’t revealed if it will offer a platform to let businesses and consumers locate, lock, and wipe their laptops, or if it is a solution that enables the OS and applications to offer those functionalities. Hopefully, we will get to know more when laptops with Snapdragon X2 Elite start reaching the market.
Speaking of which, Samsung was one of the first brands to launch a laptop with Qualcomm’s previous flagship chipset for laptops, the Snapdragon X Elite. It was called the Galaxy Book 4 Edge. Considering that, we think the South Korean tech giant may also launch a laptop with the Snapdragon X2 Elite.
