We've learned that Samsung has released the first Galaxy Z Fold 5 software update, which bumps the firmware version up to F946BXXS1AWH3. As the firmware version suggests, this update only brings a newer security patch – the Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes with the July 2023 security patch out of the box and is getting the August patch with the first update.
The update has nothing else to offer, which is a little disappointing as we were hoping to see fixes for some of the performance issues we've come across on the Z Fold 5. One of those issues is that the screen's refresh rate seems to dip below 120Hz sometimes for no apparent reason, and the phone also takes too long to process some photos after they've been captured, which is something we also noticed on the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Thankfully we haven't had any other issues on either of the new foldables. Both are impressively bug-free out of the box, so if you have purchased a Z Fold 5 or Z Flip 5 (or are looking to do so), you will have a great experience from the get go. And once you install the first update, your Z Fold 5 will also have the latest security fixes.
You can check for and download updates on your Z Fold 5 by opening the Settings app, navigating to the Software update menu, and tapping Download and install. Updates are rolled out in stages, so you may have to wait a few days before a new update is available for your phone and in your country.
