Galaxy XR, Samsung's first XR headset, has been officially launched today. The company confirmed at an event in New York City that the device costs $1,799. It's only seeing a limited release in South Korea and the United States.
The price appears compelling at first glance but it can go up quickly if you want to buy the accessories that are being offered, including the carrying case Samsung has designed for the Galaxy XR.
Samsung is also offering independently tracked controllers for the Galaxy XR. They don't come with the headset, though. You'll need to buy them separately. The company is selling the controllers for $249.
The company has designed a carrying case for the headset as well. It safely stores the headset, controllers, and external battery, but it's also not being offered for free. Samsung will sell it to you for $249 as well.
So that's $500 worth of accessories to account for if you want to buy everything from Samsung. It does put the $1,799 price of the headset in perspective, because it doesn't seem all that low when you add an extra $500 and suddenly you're looking at an expense of $2,300, and that's before tax in the United States.
Nevertheless, customers who are interested in the headset can buy it starting today through Samsung's online store and Samsung Experience Stores. No word as yet if and when the availability will be expanded to more countries.
