Google is improving the emoji picker in Chrome OS. According to a new report, Chrome OS is picking up support for adding symbols and special characters in the emoji picker on Chrome OS devices, including Galaxy Chromebooks. The ability to add support for special characters and symbols started rolling out with the recently released Chrome OS updates.

The special characters and symbols include arrows, bullets, stars, currency, letter-like signs, math-like symbols, and other symbols. Before this, Chrome OS only supported a handful of special characters that could be added using a keyboard shortcut and a set of numbers.

The ChromeOS emoji picker also has a new text-based emoji called emoticons

Previously, to use these symbols and special characters, Chrome OS users needed to press Ctrl + U, followed by the specific code for that symbol or unique character. The visual picker makes it easier to understand which sign you are picking. Moreover, it is similar to how things are done on Windows and other platforms.

The updated Chrome OS emoji picker lets you choose symbols and special characters from the dedicated menu. This can be accessed in two ways. One is by right-clicking, and the second is by pressing the Search + Shift + Space key combination. You will see a new text-based emoji called emoticons in the new emoji picker. These emoticons include a simple smiley face and a more expressive shrug (¯\_(ツ)_/¯).
