What's not to like about more AI?

Gemini may be hogging all of the limelight on Samsung phones but you remember that there's another assistant on there, Bixby, the one that belongs to Samsung.
Bixby's capabilities haven't seen any major upgrades on mobile at least as Samsung has focused more on tightly integrating Gemini, but subtle improvements are now popping up.
It has been reported for the longest time that Samsung is weighing several different options on how it can work closely with AI startup Perplexity. There have been talks of Samsung buying a stake in the company to even an outright acquisition, but nothing of that sort has materialized yet.
What has happened is that a standalone Perplexity app has been released for Samsung TVs. Bixby now sends queries to Perplexity for processing so that it can offer smarter replies. This was done first for Samsung TVs as well, but it appears to work on Samsung phones as well.
As highlighted on X, a query posed to Bixby about the weather saw the assistant tap into Perplexity to provide detailed information about the forecast, and make recommendations as to weather or not an umbrella might be required.
Samsung is already expected to give Perplexity a bigger role on the Galaxy S26 series as the company reportedly wants to bring more AI services on its devices beyond Google's Gemini. This could be the beginning of a new partnership that may see Perplexity's reach expand on Samsung's countless mobile devices.
