For many parents with kids up to the age of 12, smartphones are considered a safety essential. Yet they understandably worry about handing smartphones to such young kids as it exposes them to risks in the digital world.

AT&T has come up with a solution. It has built a phone exclusively for young kids. The device has been built with Samsung's help and is now available in the United States.

It's basically a rebranded Galaxy A17

The AT&T amiGO Jr. Phone is a safe and simple device that will keep young kids connected with their parents. The amiGO app will enable parents to manage apps, screentime, and other settings from their own Android or iOS device.

The amiGO Jr. Phone also has features like location sharing, Safe Zones, and Schedules to ensure that distractions are kept to a minimum during school hours. The Safe Zones feature immediately alerts parents if their kid leaves a designated area. School Mode limits use during class hours, while parents can also monitor real-time location through their own devices.

As far as the actual device goes, this appears to be a rebranded Galaxy A17 with special software that enables the kid-friendly features. It has the same 6.7-inch display, Exynos 1330 chipset and 5,000Ah battery as the Galaxy A17.

AT&T has also launched the amiGO Jr. Watch 2 which has better durability, native messaging, games, and other useful features. Both the amiGO Jr. Phone and the amiGO Jr. Watch 2 are available to purchase from AT&T today at $2.99 per month.
