Honor is one OEM that seems to really want to compete with Samsung in this emerging segment, even though it might not have the means yet. Case in point, after the Galaxy Ring stole the spotlight at MWC, the CEO of Honor told CNBC that his company is also working on a smart ring.
“Internally, we have this kind of solution, now we are working on that part, so in the future you can have the Honor ring,” the CEO said.
Honor added that this new wearable device will work with AI-enabled apps but didn't elaborate. No other details about the Honor ring's capabilities or availability were revealed. And the little information that was shared doesn't exude confidence in a 2024 release.
There's no way to tell what Honor is doing behind closed doors, but judging by the little information the company shared at MWC 2024, it almost sounds like it barely has this kind of wearable device in the works.
It sounds more like Honor is now reacting to Samsung's strategy, seeing how the Galaxy Ring blew up in popularity in record time. And that's just fine. Not everyone can be the innovator.
In fact, Honor seemingly wanting to join the smart ring market so soon after Samsung revealed the Galaxy Ring speaks in favor of the latter wearable and how it has the potential to change the wearable landscape forever. Honor might not want to be left behind, plus, it's good to know that Samsung could get some healthy competition.
As far as the Galaxy Ring is concerned, Samsung said it is still evolving. However, the company revealed nine sizes and three color options at MWC 2024.
Samsung also said that the Galaxy Ring will offer better sleep tracking and additional features compared to ongoing Galaxy Watches.
As for battery life, nothing is concrete yet, but the Ring would, again, outperform Galaxy Watches and could last for longer than a week on a single charge.
