There's a lot of speculation surrounding Apple's first foldable iPhone that's expected to arrive in the second half of 2026. Apple has been fashionably late to the foldable game. To put that into perspective, Samsung released the original Galaxy Fold six years ago in 2019.

The Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series have now become the foldables to beat and imitate. Apple's first foldable iPhone already seems to be quite inspired by Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold phones, and there's yet another feature that the company could copy for this series.

Ironically, Samsung's reportedly done with this feature

The first foldable iPhone is said to be book-style like the Galaxy Z Fold with an internal foldable display measuring 7.76-inches. A tipster claims that Apple will use an under-display camera on the internal panel, a feature that Samsung first introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 back in 2021. It hides the selfie camera behind the panel so the cutout doesn't stand out like a sore thumb.

It's not necessary to use this feature on a book-style foldable. Samsung has made foldables without under-display cameras and the recent Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition ditched it too in favor of a conventional punch hole selfie camera. Yet, Apple may be willing to take a page out of Samsung's book for its first round in the foldable rodeo.

Interestingly, there have been rumors that Samsung is not too keen on sticking with the under-display cameras. The reasons may be that the costs associated with this component are too high or the potential to improvement the sensors quality is too limited.

So while the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a selfie camera that disappears behind the panel, it's possible that Samsung might say adios to this feature in future models like the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
