Of all the products Samsung has on sale this holiday season, the Galaxy XR headset must be the main ‘spare no expense' gift that VR (virtual reality) and Samsung enthusiasts would most likely love to receive.

The Galaxy XR experience is unique, and even though the Android XR platform is new and untested, Samsung's XR headset should get any tech fan excited. Is it the perfect Christmas gift? Here are a few reasons why you should or shouldn't consider it.

Why Galaxy XR makes a great present

  • It's unlike any other device.
  • It enables new experiences.
  • It's exciting for tech enthusiasts who want the latest.
  • It's quite exquisite, and nobody will argue that your gifts are not generous.

Why Galaxy XR might not be a great present

  • It's expensive, and accessories are sold separately at extra cost.
  • If the recipient wears prescription glasses, they'll need to buy XR prescription lenses, unless you want to secretly find their prescription details and order the lenses yourself.
  • Galaxy XR might offer an exciting Christmas unboxing, but XR is not a shared experience. Only one wearer at a time.

At the very least, Galaxy XR is rare and unlike any other Samsung product. So, regardless of how much or little the headset ends up being used by its recipient in the long run, that initial gift unwrapping reaction will likely be a powerful one.

Ultimately, anyone who knows anything about virtual and augmented realities should appreciate the Galaxy XR as a gift.

But be prepared for the possibility that you might miss the giftee's first true reaction using Galaxy XR. The device requires some initial setup, and there is a bit of a learning curve to it.

As such, making Galaxy XR work the first time could become a fun part of the Christmas gift unwrapping party. Then again, don't be surprised if it doesn't and if the giftee decides to save everyone the trouble and set it up later, when you might not be around.
