Samsung could present a 4K resolution notebook OLED panel at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2019. The company is reportedly ready with the panel which will be available in three sizes — 13.3-inch, 14-inch, and 15.6-inch. The CES 2019 is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, USA, from 8-11 January 2019.

OLED technology involves the use of organic LEDs and have several advantages compared to traditional LCD screens. OLED laptops could be a trend to look out for next year, and Samsung is expected to be a part of it.

Samsung could launch an OLED laptop next year

The 4K notebook OLED panels developed by Samsung Display have a high resolution, low blue light (better for long-usage) and wide viewing angle. They also are thinner than their LCD counterparts and guarantee minimal energy consumption. In addition, OLED panels also offer bright colors and good contrast and help with eye-strain issues.

So these OLED panels will certainly bring considerable advantages over the LCD panels for notebooks, but will be a little costlier as well. However, the price difference between an OLED and an LCD panel of same resolution will not be too big. The price of Samsung OLED panels is expected to be about $50-60 higher than a comparable LCD panel.

This not so huge price difference may tempt manufacturers to switch to OLED panels next year as it pays off with quality and demand in the market. Industry insiders believe that there will be many notebook computers using high-resolution OLED panels in 2019. Samsung is reportedly in talks with HP, Dell, and Lenovo to supply these panels. The company, meanwhile, will be looking to launch a product of its own as well.
