Galaxy S8 October security patch update released in Canada

The latest Android security patch has now been released for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The Galaxy S8 October security patch is rolling out in Canada for devices on the Rogers and Fido Mobile networks. The new update comes with software version G950WVLU5BRI6 and G955WVLU5BRI6 for the S8 and S8+ respectively.

The October 2018 security patch fixes a dozen critical Android OS vulnerabilities. 11 critical vulnerabilities that affect only Samsung's software have also been fixed, in addition to many minor and medium-risk vulnerabilities. It's unclear if the update brings anything other the latest security fixes, but if you own a Galaxy S8 or S8+ and have received the update, do let us know by leaving a comment.

To see if the update is available for your phone, open the Settings app, go into the Software update section, then tap Download updates manually. Alternatively, you can download the latest firmware from our database (Galaxy S8 | Galaxy S8+) and upgrade through a Windows PC.
