Samsung's foldable phones are facing their biggest challenge ever in the form of the iPhone Duo. While Apple's first foldable phone does a few things better than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung's device still holds the upper hand in other areas. Now, it has been confirmed that the iPhone Duo features a larger battery than both of Samsung's newest book-style foldables.
Just before iPhone Duo preorders went live globally last weekend, Apple published the phone's EPREL ratings. It revealed that the iPhone Duo uses a combined battery capacity of 4,883mAh, which is slightly higher than what was reported during the phone's announcement last month. The phone has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
This gives it a larger capacity than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which has a rated battery capacity of 4,660mAh and a typical marketed capacity of 4,800mAh. The iPhone Duo even edges out the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which features a rated battery capacity of 4,854mAh and a typical capacity of 5,000mAh.

The EPREL website also reveals that the iPhone Duo's rated battery endurance is 51 hours and 30 minutes per charge cycle based on standard testing. This is slightly lower than the iPhone 18 Pro's 52-hour endurance and substantially lower than the iPhone 18 Pro Max's 62-hour endurance.
In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 8's battery endurance sits at 44 hours and 10 minutes, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra reaches 51 hours and 10 minutes. However, Samsung's new foldable phones boast better free-fall reliability with a Class B rating compared to the iPhone Duo's Class C rating. Their batteries are also rated for better long-term longevity, offering 1,200 charge cycles compared to the iPhone Duo's 1,000 charge cycles.
Ultimately, while Apple's first foldable iPhone offers a higher-capacity battery and longer battery life per charge than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, Samsung's foldables fight back with superior free-fall reliability, better battery health over the lifespan of the device, and thinner and lighter designs.
