Galaxy Z Fold 8 size compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra - Source: OnLeaks
Samsung is expected to launch two book-style foldable phones later this month: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Both are flagship devices featuring large foldable displays, blazing-fast performance, the latest version of One UI, and bigger batteries than their predecessors. So, how do they differ?
Let us find out.
The biggest difference between the two phones is their size and shape. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is shorter and wider, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is taller and narrower.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 measures 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7mm when folded and 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5mm when unfolded. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra measures 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9mm when folded and 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm when unfolded. Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is taller and thinner.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch foldable display. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has a much larger 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch foldable display.
Thanks to its wider aspect ratio, the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s inner display could be better suited for watching videos. Both phones should excel at multitasking, allowing you to run two apps side by side.
Neither phone is expected to support the S Pen.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a dual-camera setup on the rear, consisting of a 50MP primary camera (f/1.8) with OIS and a 50MP ultrawide camera (f/1.9).
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra adds a third rear camera, featuring a 50MP primary camera (f/1.8) with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera (f/1.9), and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
Both phones have two 10MP front-facing cameras with an f/2.2 aperture. They can record videos at up to 4K 60fps using all cameras, while the primary and ultrawide rear cameras support 8K 30fps video recording.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is expected to feature the largest batteries ever used in Galaxy Z Fold devices.
Samsung is expected to price the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series higher than its predecessor.
Both phones are expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. They are also expected to ship with Android 17-based One UI 9.0 and new Galaxy AI features.
Both devices are expected to feature OLED displays with a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s foldable display could reach up to 3,600 nits of peak brightness.
The inner displays on both phones are also rumored to have a nearly crease-free appearance thanks to a redesigned hinge and thicker Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG). They will have a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, DeX, and Samsung Pay.
Other expected features include GPS, 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, NFC, a USB 3.2 Type-C port, and an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.
