The pull of extended reality products like the Galaxy XR is that they allow you to exist in a digital reality. These immersive experiences can go beyond just productivity and entertainment.
They can also be used to provide comfort during generous acts such as blood donation, which is what Samsung has now made possible.
Samsung and global healthcare company Abbott teamed up to bring immersive extended reality experiences to blood donation sites in South Korea.
The two companies partnered with the Korean Red Cross to conduct the country's first XR-powered blood donation drive at Samsung Digital City in Suwon on June 2, 2026. Samsung employees immersed themselves in engaging XR content while donating blood under the supervision of Korean Red Cross personnel. The campaign coincided with World Blood Donor Day.
Donors entered a calming, Zen-like garden environment after putting on the Galaxy XR. The experience only had visual interactions and didn't require donors to make any hand gestures or use controllers.
They planted virtual seeds by just looking at them, which lead to flowers and trees blooming around them in three to five minutes all while calming music developed in partnership with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra played in the background.
Samsung and Abbott are now planning to expand this program through similar activations at major global events in the United States and Malaysia.
This will expand the comfort and distraction provided by the immersive experiences on Galaxy XR to more donors, healthcare professionals, and blood banks across the globe.
