The Galaxy XR, the world’s first Android XR-based headset, received generally positive reviews when it was launched last year. However, things have not been going smoothly for the headset over the past month or so, as users reported severe frame drops and stuttering issues. Samsung has now started fixing the problem with a new software update.
After the April 2026 update was released for the Galaxy XR headset, users began experiencing severe frame drops, UI stuttering, and tracking issues. Multiple Galaxy XR owners reported the problem, which was eventually traced to a memory leak issue.
The device’s memory usage reportedly continues to increase after a few minutes of use, eventually making the headset nearly unusable. In most cases, restarting the device was the only temporary fix. Samsung and Google quickly responded by releasing a new software update to address the issue.
The new update carries firmware version I610UEU2AZD8, and several users have already reported smoother performance after installing it on their Galaxy XR headsets.
However, the update may have introduced another issue. Some users are reportedly noticing screen tearing when a hand or controller passes across a virtual desktop.
If you own a Galaxy XR headset and have been facing the memory leak issue, you can check for the latest software update by heading to Settings > Software update and tapping Download and install.
