Samsung has announced that it is rolling out an upgraded version of Bixby to many of its 2026 home appliances, including air conditioners, Family Hub refrigerators, robot vacuum cleaners, washing machines, and water purifiers. Currently, the brand seems to be offering it in its home country, South Korea.

According to the brand, the upgraded Bixby, which now uses large-language models (LLM), can understand natural, complex sentences, apart from just specific commands. It can also perform multi-step tasks, provide answers to questions about the device, and also answer questions that are not related to the product, such as those about daily life, using Perplexity.

The company has provided many examples of how people can utilise the new Bixby:

  1. On the Family Hub refrigerator, if a user says to Bixby, “I’ve put beef and mackerel in the fridge, so please change the mode,” it can automatically switch the refrigerator to Meat/Fish Mode.
  2. On an air conditioner, if a user says to Bixby, “Turn it on without airflow,” it will turn on the AC and set the Windfree mode.
  3. On a robotic vacuum cleaner, if a user says to Bixby, “Robot vacuum cleaner, clean quietly,” it will set the Low Noise mode.
  4. On a robotic vacuum cleaner, if a user says to Bixby, “Please clean the floor when the washing is finished,” it can start the cleaning when the washing machine finishes the wash.
  5. On an air conditioner, if a user says to Bixby, “Please dehumidify with the air conditioner when it rains,” it can start the AC and turn on the Dehumidification function when it rains.
  6. On any of the devices with the upgraded Bixby, when a user says to the voice assistant, “Tell me good places to go on a spring outing with my family,” it will provide an appropriate answer for it. The same goes if a user says to Bixby, “Tell me how to store onions for a long time.”

Commenting on starting the rollout of upgraded Bixby to its home appliances, Samsung’s Vice President of DA Business Division, Kim Yong-jae, said, “Samsung Electronics' Bixby is constantly evolving to enable users to converse naturally with each product and use them conveniently. We will further advance Bixby and software functions so that Samsung's AI appliances can serve as companions in the home.

At the moment, there’s no information about when Samsung will release the new version of Bixby to its home appliances in other regions.
