Samsung's announcement about smart glasses - Source: Google
Samsung revealed earlier this year that it plans to launch its first smart glasses in 2026. These glasses are expected to be based on Android XR and will compete with products from companies such as Meta. It now appears that Spotify is preparing its app for these upcoming Galaxy Glasses.
A report from Android Authority reveals that the latest beta version of the Spotify app for Android contains code related to displaying the Now Playing screen on Android XR-powered smart glasses. The app can also display lyrics on a screen, if the device supports one, allowing users to follow along with songs more easily.
Android XR-based smart glasses do not run Android apps locally. Instead, apps are processed on a paired smartphone, and the visuals are streamed to the glasses for display.
Samsung’s first smart glasses are reportedly expected to ship without a built-in display. Instead, users will rely on Gemini to search for information and perform tasks. They are expected to feature a 12MP eye-level camera, microphones, loudspeakers, touch controls, and a 245mAh battery. Samsung is working with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker for its smart glasses.
The company is also rumored to introduce a second-generation model next year with an integrated display.
