Samsung's Galaxy Ring was in the news for all the wrong reasons late last year. A user had to deal with the Galaxy Ring getting stuck on their finger after the battery swelled up, with the device ultimately having to be cut so that the finger could be liberated.
The company looked into the matter and found that there was no widespread issue with the Galaxy Ring's battery. A Reddit user has now complained about the battery on their smart ring swelling up. It's not uncommon for electronic devices to just die and if that ever happens to your Galaxy Ring, don't do what this user did.
The user says that their Galaxy Ring stopped holding a charge after 9 months of ownership. Instead of getting a replacement under warranty from Samsung, the user kept wearing it because “I got used to the feeling of it on my finger.”
Only this week the user put it, a device whose battery has long since died, on the charger before going to bed and noticed that it didn't fit. That's when they noticed the swollen spots. The user then brands it as a “ticking time bomb” and expresses a distrust in Samsung.
To be fair, this isn't on Samsung. If the battery did fail during the warranty period the user could easily have received a free replacement Galaxy Ring from Samsung. Not only that, they continued to wear a device with a defective lithium battery, exposing themselves to risk for no reason.
Samsung's handling of the earlier Galaxy Ring incident was good enough to inspire confidence in the product. This is just the rare but not uncommon instance of a device dying. It's important to be diligent as a user when it comes to these things.
