Last year, WhatsApp released a feature that allows Samsung smartphone users to transfer data from an iOS device. This feature is not yet available for other Android smartphone brands besides Samsung and Google. So, except for a few Pixel phones, the iOS WhatsApp transfer feature remains exclusive to the Galaxy ecosystem. However, it might not remain exclusive for long.
New evidence was found in an unreleased WhatsApp beta build, and the data suggests that the Meta-owned (ex-Facebook) messaging app could soon offer iOS transfer options for more Android devices that aren't made by Samsung or Google. This would be great news for Android smartphone users, though it won't mean much for existing Samsung customers. It does, however, mean that Samsung will lose its exclusivity over the WhatsApp transfer feature, though it was bound to happen eventually.
These changes were spotted by WabetaInfo in a recent WhatsApp beta build, but as always, there's no way to determine when (or even “if) this feature be released to the public.
In other recent news, WhatsApp launched a pilot run for in-app money transfers via the Novi digital wallet. The app could soon let more customers transfer money with the same ease as sending a regular WhatsApp attachment.
