5 reasons why you should pick up a Galaxy S24+

Samsung's new Galaxy S24 flagships appear to be a hit, and not for no reason. As usual, Samsung's new lineup consists of three models: a base S24, an S24+, and an S24 Ultra. They share many specs, but each variant also offers some unique features.

We're big fans of the Galaxy S24+ variant, and if you've been eyeing this device but are unsure whether or not you should buy it, here are our five reasons why we believe it's worth picking up.

    A perfected design formula

For the past few years, Samsung's flagship design has become more minimalistic, shedding unnecessary elements, such as the rear-facing camera frame.

The Galaxy S24+ is a distilled version of that design language. It has a flat frame and flat glass panels, and tolerances seem to be tighter than ever.

You could say the same about the base and Ultra models, but the other thing to consider is that the Galaxy S24+ might be the closest to a perfect size for most smartphone users. It's not too small to affect battery life and not too big to become unwieldy.

    The Galaxy S24+ has a 6.7-inch display, weighs just under 200 grams, and measures 158.5 x 75.8 x 7.7mm.

A stunning display with the highest pixel density

You may have heard about this before, but barring the lack of anti-reflective Gorilla Armor screen protection, the Galaxy S24+ has the best display in the S24 lineup. And yes, it is technically superior to the S24 Ultra's screen.

The Galaxy S24+ has a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an LTPO backplane, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and up to 2,600 nits of brightness.

But while these characteristics are shared across the S24 series, the Plus model takes the cake for its 1440 x 3120 resolution and ~513 pixels per inch (ppi). Even if the Galaxy S24 Ultra's display has the same resolution, it has a lower ppi of around 505 because of its bigger size.

Great performance and battery life no matter where you are

The Galaxy S24+ features the Exynos 2400 chip in most markets and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in others (USA, Canada, and China). But no matter which version you can pick up, you'll get fantastic performance and battery life.

Exynos went through a rough patch before the Exynos 2400 came along, but this new chip is competent. And even though it's not exactly as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it seems to be more energy efficient.

Which leads us to battery life. The Galaxy S24+ is surprisingly competent in this area — even compared to recent phones like the Galaxy S23+. Most people get more than one day of battery life from the Galaxy S24+ on a single charge, and they don't have to baby the phone to achieve that high level of autonomy.

    Super HDR and Dual Recording

Two fantastic new camera features that are available for the Galaxy S24 series (not just the S24+ models) are Super HDR and Dual Recording.

Super HDR lets you capture and view photos and videos with a wider dynamic range and deeper colors. Super HDR content can be viewed on the device or shared on social media platforms that support it, such as Instagram.

Meanwhile, Dual Recording mode lets Galaxy S24 series users record videos using any two cameras on the phone simultaneously.

Samsung confirmed Super HDR won't be available for older high-end phones, and Dual Recording might skip older devices too. For now, these features are exclusive to the Galaxy S24 lineup, but they may be used again by future models.

    Fantastic firmware support

The last but not least reason why the Galaxy S24+ is worth picking up is firmware support. The phone ships with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, and Samsung says it will support it with seven major Android OS upgrades and at least eight years of security patches.

In other words, the Galaxy S24+ and the rest of the series will receive new yearly Android updates until 2031. This makes the Galaxy S24+ one of the most future-proof phones you can find.
