Samsung's next-gen rugged smartphone is one step closer to being released in India. The Galaxy Xcover 7 was recently spotted at BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), carrying the same model number we brought into the spotlight in September.

The Galaxy Xcover 7 was certified by BIS yesterday, November 22. The phone was listed on the BIS website with model number SM-G556B (via MySmartPrice).

BIS didn't reveal anything else about the rugged Samsung phone, but the fact that it was certified there means the Galaxy Xcover 7 will likely come to the Indian market.

What else do we know about the Galaxy Xcover 7?

Last week, the first Galaxy Xcover 7 renders leaked. The phone has a rugged look, a display bezel that sticks out to protect the screen, an Infinity-U notch for the selfie camera, and the usual red inserts around the rear-facing camera and dedicated Push-to-Talk button.

The same Galaxy Xcover 7 rocking model number SM-G556B was also spotted in an online benchmark, which confirmed that the phone sports a new mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset.

The Galaxy Xcover 7 should also sport at least 6GB of RAM, and the model that was benchmarked ran Android 14. In other words, the rugged phone should boast One UI 6.0 out-of-the-box.

As usual, we expect the Galaxy Xcover 7 to have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and a shock-resistant body. As to when it will come to India and other markets, it's anyone's guess, especially since the Galaxy Xcover 7's predecessor, the Xcover 5, was released a while back, in March 2021.
