Google replaced Duo with Google Meet last year, and since then, the video calling app has been gaining features as time passes. With a new update, Google Meet now allows enterprise users to make direct calls without the need to send a link. Notably, the ability to make direct calls was only available for personal users, but now enterprise users can make calls without the cumbersome process of sending links.

Previously, enterprise users needed to send a meeting link to everyone involved in a meeting to start a call. Thanks to the new Google Meet update, 1:1 calls are now available for enterprise users that are protected by cloud encryption. As noted in the official blog, the main aim of bringing the direct call feature to Google Meet enterprise users is to streamline the call functionality between colleagues.

The new Google Meet update will roll out to all workspace customers in the coming weeks

Depending on the Workspace edition, Google Meet enterprise users get access to an array of features, including in-meeting chat, visual effects, virtual backgrounds, and live closed captions. In addition to the Google Meet direct calling feature, the new update also brings a subtle yet noteworthy redesign.

The account avatar switcher is now repositioned and gets a ‘Code' shortcut. It was previously located in the search bar. The ‘Start a call' feature is also getting revamped and becoming more user-friendly, with the options for contacts and calling at the top. Below there is a list of contact suggestions, and tapping on the contact takes you to the live preview, giving you that extra time before the call to adjust yourself. The direct 1:1 call feature will be available to all Google Workspace users in the coming weeks.
