A new report on the semiconductor industry's revenue for Q2 2023 brings some good news and some bad news for Samsung. The revenue of Samsung Electronics' semiconductors arm has increased from $8.9 billion in Q1 2023 to $9.4 billion in Q2 2023, a 5.8% quarter-on-quarter improvement. Unfortunately, the South Korean tech giant still stands second, trailing behind Intel for four consecutive quarters.
Intel's revenue increased from $11.1 billion in Q1 2023 to $12.3 billion in Q2 2023. That is a 10.1% quarter-on-quarter improvement. Nvidia has miraculously jumped from ninth position to third position in just one quarter. In the first quarter of this year, the company's revenue stood at $5.4 billion. However, the firm's revenue increased to $7.9 billion in the second quarter, a massive 47.5% quarter-on-quarter growth.
Qualcomm is in fourth place, with revenues declining from $7.9 billion in Q1 to $7.2 billion in Q2, which could be a direct result of decreasing smartphone sales. Broadcom stands fifth with a revenue of $6.1 billion; it is the only other company whose revenues have fallen.
SK Hynix and AMD are in sixth and seventh position, respectively, with revenues of $5.3 billion each. According to Omdia, the semiconductor industry has grown by 3.8% from Q1 2023 to Q2 2023, with total revenues at $124.3 billion.
