Starting today, April 18, Samsung Galaxy device users in the USA will notice that the Samsung Free app on their Galaxy devices is getting a makeover. What once was Samsung Daily became Samsung Free in 2020, and starting today, a new transformation begins.

Samsung Free is becoming Samsung News. The company announced today that Galaxy device users in the USA will notice that the Samsung Free app has a new icon. It represents the refreshed Samsung News platform, which is now launching in a beta stage in the United States.

At first, Samsung News will be available on select phones, but over the coming weeks, the company says “it will roll out to all addressable devices.”

Samsung's new app brings three ways to find news

Samsung designed its latest News app to give users three easy ways to find content through Daily Briefings, News Feeds, and Podcasts.

Daily Briefings are delivered twice a day (in the morning and evening) by a team of experienced news editors who work with Samsung to bring the top headlines to Galaxy device users.

Through News Feeds, users can view a feed of news from Samsung partners. The feed can be customized through favorite topics and news sources.

And thirdly, through the Podcast section, Samsung News users can listen to their favorite news and entertainment podcasts.

At first, Samsung News will aggregate news from partners, including Bloomberg Media, CNN, Fortune, Fox News, Glamour, GQ, HuffPost, Money, Newsweek, New York Post, Parade, POLITICO, Refinery29, Salon, Slate, Sports Illustrated, The Daily Beast, TheStreet, USA TODAY, and Vice.

Samsung says more news sources will come to the app over time through Upday, its syndication partner. However, the company hasn't revealed any details as to whether or not (or when) Samsung News will be released in other markets outside the USA.
