Google announced in September 2022 that Google Tasks will take the place of reminders set using Google Assistant and Google Calendar. Now, Google has officially announced that the migration of Google Assistant and Calendar Reminders to Google Tasks will begin next month.

This migration aims at providing a single go-to task creation and management platform across Google. Free and personal Google account holders will see a new prompt in Google Assistant and Google Calendar to initiate the migration to Google Tasks. This prompt will start appearing on March 6, 2023. Apparently, it will take some time before the ‘Turn My Reminders Into Tasks Now' button in Google Calendar Reminders becomes available for all mobile and web users.

Users will be able to create to-dos from multiple Google Workspace apps

If you do not migrate Google Assistant and Google Calendar reminders to Google Tasks, the migration will start automatically in Q2 2023. Google Workspace customers, which include work and school accounts, can start migrating on April 12, 2023. For them, the automatic transfer will begin on May 22, 2023. Reminders created in Google Keep won't be migrated to Tasks and will continue to appear on the note-taking app.

Users will be able to create tasks on the Google Calendar using the hands-free power of Google Assistant. This is similar to how they previously created Reminders. Also, users will be able to create tasks right from other Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Chat or directly from the Google Tasks app.

After the migration is complete, you will see all of your to-dos in one place in the Google Tasks app. Additionally, you will be able to use the specialized features of Google Tasks, such as organizing to-dos with multiple lists and adding descriptions for extra organization.
