Samsung announced SDC 21 (Samsung Developer Conference 2021) earlier this month and confirmed that former smartphone chief DJ Koh is one of the event's main speakers. The company didn't go into many details regarding the event's main talking points, but SDC 21 went live today, and we now know that the future of IoT and the SmartThings platform were among the main topics of conversation.

More specifically, today, Samsung unveiled SmartThings Build. It's the latest addition to the SmartThings platform and was designed to help property management companies and real estate developers create and manage IoT-enabled living spaces across multiple properties at scale.

Creating smarter living spaces with SmartThings Build

Smart home features are becoming increasingly important for residents. According to Samsung citing a recent survey, 75% of people (who participated in the survey) claim that they prefer places with smart home capabilities, such as smart lights, smart cameras, and smart appliances.

All of these devices can become difficult to manage at scale, but SmartThings Build gives property managers easy access to maintenance and diagnostic tools. The platform can automatically generate maintenance tickets and allows managers to grant or revoke access to IoT devices remotely.

Aside from easier IoT management through SmartThings Build, Samsung's connected platform can improve energy efficiency and lower the cost of bills by allowing homeowners to monitor water and electrical consumption, and more.

Samsung has partnered with numerous system management companies for SmartThings Build, including Entrata, iQuue, Aeotec, CommScope RUCKUS, Project Etopia, Picerne, Greystar, JM, ViewHomes, and VolkerWessels.
