Samsung Pay has now gone live across the Eftpos network in Australia. Samsung partnered with Eftpos for contactless and tokenized transactions via Samsung Pay. The new solution offers users more choice for making mobile payments. They can choose between making debit card payments via the Eftpos network or Visa.

Heritage Bank is the first issuer in the country to offer the new Samsung Pay feature, but more banks and issuers are expected to join soon. Over time, more Australian users can pay using their Eftpos cards on Samsung Pay. Users can make their choice by using a toggle inside the Samsung Pay app on their smartphones. Recently, the South Korean firm had launched a new Samsung Pay feature in Australia that allowed customers to make high-value purchases without a PIN.

Mark Hodgson, head of services at Samsung Australia, said, “Samsung puts customer experience at the centre of everything we do and, through our partnership with Eftpos, we are providing Australian customers with more choice and control over their contactless payment transactions. We are proud to launch with Eftpos and Heritage Bank. This collaboration is a great example for how service providers can bring their best innovation together and deliver breakthrough experiences for Australians.

Users have been increasingly preferring contactless mobile payment solutions, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic and the fear of contracting the virus by touching infected surfaces. Eftpos CEO Stephen Benton expects that the contactless payments trend to slow down anytime soon.
