Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE goes official as Samsung's cheapest foldable

Alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung has announced the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. It is the company's first Fan Edition foldable phone. At $899, it is also the company's cheapest foldable phone ever. It offers much of the same design and features of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 that was launched last year.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is basically the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a slightly slower chip. It comes equipped with the 4nm Exynos 2400 processor that debuted last year with the Galaxy S24 series. It is slightly slower than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that was used in the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The rest of the specifications are exactly similar between the two phones.

It has the same 3.4-inch cover screen and 6.7-inch foldable screen as the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The cover screen has a 720 x 748 pixels resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, 1,600 nits peak brightness, and a folder-like shape, while the inner screen has a Full HD+ resolution, a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, and HDR10+. It has stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint reader as well.

The phone has a 10MP selfie camera, a 50MP primary rear camera (with dual-pixel autofocus and OIS), and a 12MP ultrawide camera. All three cameras can capture 4K 60fps videos. It can capture images and videos in 10-bit Super HDR. Videos can be recorded in HDR10 and HDR10+ formats.

It runs Android 16 (One UI 8) out of the box. Samsung has promised to offer seven major Android OS updates and security patches for up to seven years. It also has Galaxy AI features, including Call Assist, Browsing Assist, Drawing Assist, Generative Wallpaper, Interpreter, Note Assist, Photo Assist, Transcript Assist, and Writing Assist.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. It has 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging (with Qi2 Ready certification). Other features include 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port.

It measures 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9mm when it is unfolded and 85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9mm when it is folded. It weighs 187g and has an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. Its frame is made using Armor Aluminum, while its cover display and rear are covered by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE's launch price is $899 for the 128GB version, which is $200 lower than that of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. It also has a 256GB version, and both storage variants come with 8GB RAM. It is available in black and white colors and is available in pre-order starting today. It will reach store shelves in select markets on July 29.
