I know notification led keeps lighting up until the message has been read. What about the edge lightning? does ik blink a few times, or does it keep blinking like the notification led?

It is AMOLED screen, Samsung can use edge lighting as Notification LED. Or, also camera cutting can be used for that purpose.

Front camera’s border lights up when front camera turns on, and that light can easily be used as notification light. Which I really hope is the case.

Im going to miss it for sure but Im glad I use the Samsung convertible wireless fast charger with the led to know its charging. Maybe I will turn off the led on my S8+ now so I will be used to it when my 10+ gets here!

it lacks of notification LED and Iris Scanner, I’ll miss both.

I really like the note 9’s top bezel containing all the sensors and camera, without making the screen look ugly like the punch hole does

They could introduce a point of sceen, since it is amoled scren, so a little spot on the screen it self could act as notifiaction led for the time when screen is off

What I will miss the most – and a key reason why I’m holding on to my Note 4 as long as possible – is the lack of IR blaster. I hear all the arguments that IR is so last year, but homes and offices are still dependent on ‘legacy’ tech. My TV uses IR, so do all the TVs I ever come across at friends or hotels etc. Likewise every home/office projector I ever used, all office air cons, etc. And good luck finding the remote in a shared office etc. I know – I see people standing precariously… Read more »

Edge lighting display is pretty much a Neon-LED notification light for the S8 & S9, so I’m all good without the ordinary LED notification light.

Not only the notification LED but; iris scanner which was awesome and the scroll up/down notification panel from the fingerprint sensor as well. Those tiny bezels weren’t that bad. They had their meaningful purpose.

Actually, as some said – they could had done it with the LED around the camera or somewhere else as it’s amoled. Still, I think they try to promote the always on feature that is quite good for notifications if it’s turned on. It affects the battery life tho, and I prefer it turned off on my note 9.

Out of curiosity, how much difference does it typically make to battery life and usability? By that I mean, does it (say) reduce your remaining battery at the end of a typical day down from maybe 20% to 15%. Or what? And if you do a nightly recharge, does it matter – so long as you can still go a full day?
Also, does AOD suck any more battery than a notification LED – that must use some as well.

How is the S10 indicating it’s charging? In the past there has been many times the led light saved my bacon telling me that the phone was not charging

They could put led notification into glare around front camera. AoD is fine, but draining battery like a crazy. 1% per hour on my S9+ (oreo). Missing led notification was the reason I sold my iPhone 6S after 2 weeks.

The bad

There really ought to be an “I won’t miss it at all and I won’t use AOD, either” option, which is what I would have ticked.

250 persons don’t want S10 because don’t has LED notification? Really?

These are people who weren’t going to buy the device anyway

Yes, really, it’s a deal breaker for me. It was the same with the IrDa, but there is no phone that comes with that as far as I know.

Mi Mix 9 has it

How about missing iris scanner ?

That glowing animation around cameras can be an alliterative. Isn’t it?

I think the glare around the front camera could’ve been used as an alternative..

I wouldn’t skip the Galaxy S10 family solely because of the Notification LED. I mean, Edge Lighting works extremely well as an alternative, but yes, as GS7edge mentioned, Samsung should make use of the area around the camera.

The only time I really observe and see the Notification LED is when the phone is charging.

PaulCSYD

Agree! Other than charging, I rarely take notice of it, I use AOD on my GS7E. Looking forward to getting my GS10+.

GS7edge

Should have use the “black hole” as the notification LED and battery indicator as well, not just animation for launching camera

So true. As a part of the AoD.

I’m a note user, so I hope they don’t do the same for the note 10.

I don’t like it.
But hey…I’ll be able to blame not answering to messages on it. “Stupid Samsung removed the notification LED from this phone so I didn’t see you text, honey. Sorry” seems like a great excuse ahahahahah

They could have incorporated the LED Notification into the speaker like what Sony had done in the past.

Or used an animation around the camera hole.

The S10 should also have an LED-like dot displayed on the screen. It could move around to prevent burn-in. I always rely on the LED to check if my phone is charging and for notifications even from afar. Never got used to AOD.
