In more markets than one, Samsung's mobile division has been doing well enough to be the number one maker. Earlier today, a research report claimed that India's numero uno homegrown maker, i.e., Micromax had dethroned Samsung to take the number one spot in the country as the biggest smartphone manufacturer. The Canalys report maintained that Samsung had a 20% market share in the country in the last quarter of 2014, while another firm GfK reported it to be 34.3%… which is more than 1.5 times the 20%! Varying numbers, we must admit, which according to Samsung are because of the difference in methods of survey: GfK's numbers are based strictly on cities with a population of more than 50,000 people. With Samsung having a hard time on the entry-level segment of the market, though, a battle like this had always been on the cards.
