Will it be called the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra?
Reading time: 2 minutes
Earlier today, Samsung released a teaser of its next Galaxy Z Fold device. While most reports have been calling it the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the South Korean firm mentioned the term Ultra several times in its teaser. So, will Samsung release the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra this year?
In its press release, Samsung teased the silhouette of what appears to be “Galaxy’s next chapter.” While it didn't name the phone directly, it used the term Ultra several times in the press release. The title of the press release is ‘Meet the Next Chapter of Ultra.' The device teased in the announcement has two halves, so it isn't the upcoming tri-fold phone. It is confirmed to have bigger screens, though.
The South Korean firm said users are demanding “an Ultra-experience that goes beyond a simple list of upgraded features in a smaller and more portable form factor,” and that they have come to expect industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance, and seamless AI integration from “Galaxy Ultra” devices. It also said, “The Ultra experience is ready to unfold.“
Since the term Ultra has been used several times, it is possible that the teased device will be named the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra. But does that also mean there will be a regular Galaxy Z Fold 7? And what about the tri-fold device that is expected to be go official later this year? Wouldn't it be more logical to call that device the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra?
It definitely has some Ultra features, as it is rumored to have the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a titanium backplate, a 200MP primary rear camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide camera, 10MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom), a 10MP selfie camera, a 4,400mAh battery, 25W fast charging, and 15W wireless Qi2 Ready charging.
It is rumored to be just 4.2mm thin, matching the thinnest foldable phone in the world right now, the OPPO Find N5. It will likely also feature an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance, stereo speakers, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. Other features could include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, Samsung Pay, and a USB Type-C port.
Things are pretty confusing as of now, and we will only get a proper idea about the naming of Samsung's upcoming foldable phones in the coming weeks.
