Samsung tries to plug leaks with a more secure internal chat system

For the most part, it appears that Samsung has a difficult time keeping secrets. Leaks occur more often than Samsung would like, and the company is reportedly taking measures to plug them.

News from Korea, citing industry sources, reveals that several Samsung Group branches have introduced a “secure chat” feature for their internal messaging platform, designed specifically for employees.

The goal is to minimize leaks of sensitive internal discussions and avoid repeating a recent scenario where sensitive instructions shared in an executive meeting were posted on anonymous online boards without authorization.

Sources say the new secure chat rooms block copying, pasting, and forwarding messages. Screenshots are disabled, and chat records cannot be saved to personal computers.

Supposedly, the system clearly informs employees whether they are communicating through the secure chat mode. Secure chat rooms are labeled as such.

Samsung hasn't made any public statements regarding this new internal policy and secure chat mode. Ironically, the lack of an official statement suggests that the information about the secure chat mode may have also reached Korean news outlets via leaks — the very problem Samsung is trying to address.

Sources say that these systems are now in place to protect not only sensitive company data but also the privacy of employees. The secure chat mode has reportedly been implemented across major Samsung branches.

While these measures cannot stop leaks originating from third parties or Samsung’s extensive supply chain, they could slow the flow of internal information and serve as a deterrent against premature disclosures. Whether they will have any impact on future phone leaks is yet to be determined.

Speaking of leaks, the Galaxy S26 series doesn't seem to hold that many secrets anymore. Samsung will announce the flagship trio next week, but specs and renders have already surfaced. Time will tell if Samsung was able to keep anything secret this time around. The Galaxy S26 launch event is scheduled for February 25.
