In December 2024, Samsung and KT Telecom launched a service in South Korea for Samsung smartphones running on the KT Telecom network, which, when a Galaxy device receives an SMS that is malicious, alerts users to be cautious about it. Now, the two South Korean companies are expanding the same alert service for MMS as well.
KT Telecom has announced that in collaboration with Samsung, it will launch a service in South Korea next month which, when Samsung phones on its network receive an MMS that is malicious, alerts users to be cautious about it. It uses AI to recognize if an MMS is malicious, spam, related to gambling, illegal loans, or adult content.
With this feature, people don’t have to install a third-party application to verify if an SMS or MMS is malicious spam. The brand says that the SMS alert service is available for 37 Galaxy devices and is active on seven million units in the country.
Reportedly, when they receive such an MMS, the phone will show them an alert about it saying ‘Suspected as malicious text.’ According to the company, among the texts it classified as malicious spam, 99% reports were accurate.
