A few months ago, we learned that Samsung could make CMOS image sensors (CIS) for Apple’s iPhone models. Well, it looks like the South Korean tech giant is getting ready to start its manufacturing.
According to a report from The Elec, Samsung has recently posted openings for jobs for mechanical and electrical project managers at its chip-making plant in Austin, Texas. They are expected to handle the opinions of designers, suppliers, and equipment engineers on the “hookup” work, which includes installing piping for gas and water.
Furthermore, the South Korean tech giant notified the Austin City Council that it is investing $19 billion into the facility for maintenance and installation of advanced equipment. Samsung is said to be taking these steps to start the manufacturing of CIS for Apple’s iPhones.
The publication says that Samsung may start the production of CIS by March 2026 at the earliest. On a related note, we recently learned that camera sensors for iPhones could use Samsung's components that will help with autofocus and stabilisation.
