One UI 8.0 enabled Gemini Live AI assistant to run on the Galaxy Z Flip 7's cover screen. Now, this functionality is being extended to more Galaxy Z Flip series foldable phones as One UI 8.0 expands to more Samsung devices in the coming weeks.
Samsung announced today that it will begin rolling out the stable version of One UI 8.0 (Android 16) to the Galaxy S25 series. Other high-end devices will receive the update in the coming weeks. This new version of Android and One UI enables Google's Gemini Live AI assistant to run entirely on the FlexWindow cover screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was the first Galaxy Z Flip series phone to feature a large (3.4-inch) cover display. However, despite its size, Samsung only allowed a limited number of apps to run on it. While technically all apps can be run on the cover screen of Galaxy Z Flip series phones, you need to install Good Lock and MultiStar and follow a specific process to enable other apps.
With One UI 8.0, you don't need to rely on Good Lock and MultiStar to run Gemini Live on the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. In the future, Samsung should do more and optimize all its stock apps so that they can be used without any issues on the cover screen of recent Galaxy Z Flip series phones.
One UI 8 brings several new and improved features to Samsung phones and tablets, and you can read them in detail by clicking here.
Gemini Live is Google's most advanced AI assistant for smartphones and tablets. It can see your device's live camera feed or screen and help you with things like answering questions about the content it sees. You can talk to the AI assistant as if you are talking to a person, interrupting it mid-conversation or changing the topic.
It helps you in editing or understanding documents, creating calendar events or reminders, brainstorming ideas, online or offline shopping, and a lot more. It is available in 45+ languages and in over 150 countries worldwide.
