Samsung is now preparing to release the One UI 6 Watch update based on the new version of Wear OS.
Samsung has listed One UI 6 Watch Beta on its website (via @theordysm) for the South Korean market, hinting at its imminent release. This update will most likely be based on Wear OS 5, and it could be released in the next few weeks. Samsung started internal development of One UI 6 Watch earlier this month.
Last year, the South Korean firm released the Wear OS 5-based One UI 5 Watch Beta update in the first week of June 2023. So, based on its track record, we expect it to release the One UI 6 Watch Beta update to eligible Galaxy Watches in the first week of June 2024.
Wear OS 5 is based on Android 14, which means One UI 5 Watch will also be based on Android 14. This new version of Wear OS improves battery life through process optimizations in Doze Mode. According to Google, smartwatches with Wear OS 5 offer 20% longer battery life while running a marathon.
It also makes the Watch Face Format, developed by Samsung, the default format. This means most third-party watch faces should now help smartwatches get longer battery life and newer complications. It could also improve the media playing and audio output switcher.
Other newer features we can expect from One UI 6 Watch include support for passkeys, the ability to restore passkeys from the cloud, and a simpler login experience. On top of these Wear OS 5 features, Samsung could add its own features for Galaxy Watches through One UI 6 Watch.
In the video below, you can watch our Galaxy Watch 6 Classic review. One UI 6 Watch will come first to this smartwatch.
The Wear OS 5-based One UI 6 Watch update could be released to the Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 6 series devices in the third quarter of this year. Last year, Samsung released five beta releases of One UI 5 Watch. This year, too, we can expect the same for One UI 6 Watch.
