In December 2024, Google announced Identity Check for Android. This feature prevents thieves from changing sensitive settings, such as device or account password, on a stolen Android device, even if they have the device’s passcode by explicitly asking for biometrics.
On the same day, Samsung announced the Android 15-based One UI 7 beta program for Galaxy devices, which came bundled with Identity Check. The stable version of the new software on the Galaxy S25 also comes with Google’s latest security feature.
Well, Google has now announced that Identity Check “will be available on One UI 7 eligible Galaxy devices in the coming weeks”. That statement is confusing as it means two different things.
First, the feature will arrive on Galaxy devices eligible for One UI 7.0 with One UI 7.0. Second, Google will offer it to Galaxy devices eligible for One UI 7.0 in the coming weeks, even if they are running an older version of One UI. We are assuming that the former is the case.
Check out our hands-on video of the Galaxy S25 Ultra below.
Either way, Galaxy devices eligible for One UI 7.0 will get Identity Theft very soon. Owners of non-Samsung phones, however, aren’t that lucky as they will get the security feature later this year.
