The Flipsuit Case itself is nothing to write home about. It consists of a bumper for the upper half of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and a clear case for the back panel. However, it becomes much more than that thanks to an NFC component that brings it to life in an exciting way.
We got our hands on the Flipsuit Case at Galaxy Unpacked in Seoul. And as we demonstrate in the videos below, Samsung's new Flipsuit Case for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 goes hand-in-hand with replaceable NFC cards, or as Samsung calls them, “interactive cards.” You place one of these cards on the back of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, cover it with the clear case, and watch the magic happen.
The replaceable NFC cards send data to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and enable matching designs on the 3.4-inch cover screen, a.k.a. the Flex Window. So, if you place a Spiderman-themed NFC card behind the Flipsuit Case back cover, you get a matching design for the Flex Window, complete with neat animations.
Samsung is selling the Flipsuit Case with two NFC cards (blue and purple) included for $59.99. As of this writing, the Samsung online store also lists an O Yeseul FlipSuit Case, but it's not yet available for purchase.
It's not entirely clear how Samsung will monetize this clever idea. For example, the O Yeseul design might go on sale as a full case rather than an optional NFC interactive card, which seems rather wasteful and unnecessarily expensive for people who may want to augment their NFC card collection.
But if Samsung offers optional cards separately and makes it easy for companies and designers to hop on this Flipsuit Case bandwagon, we could get a lot more interesting and diverse interactive cards for relatively cheap.
Check out our videos below for a closer look at some of the Flipsuit Case interactive card designs we got our hands on at Galaxy Unpacked, including a Mickey Mouse one, a Marvel's Spiderman card, and a Squid Game card.
