Samsung’s high-end refrigerators offer a display, providing you with features for convenience, entertainment, and fun. Well, they will soon turn into part-time billboards.
Samsung is rolling out a software update to its fridges with screens, and it enables them to show advertisements, which will put a huge dent in their user experience.
On Reddit, a user posted an image showing that their Samsung refrigerator has received a software update. According to it, the update will enable the fridge to show advertisements on the Cover Screen for the Weather, Color, and Daily Board themes. However, the Cover Screen for the Art and Gallery themes will not show ads. So, to avoid seeing ads, you will have to stick with these two themes. You can check out the image below.
People pay a lot of money for Samsung's premium refrigerators with displays, and as such, they don’t expect to see advertisements on them. If the brand wanted to show ads on these fridges, it should have notified people when they were purchasing them. In that way, people who don’t want to see them would have avoided buying these models. But Samsung didn’t do that. It took the money and is now showing ads.
Neither Samsung has said to which models it is pushing this update, nor has the user on Reddit mentioned their Samsung refrigerator model name or number. So, we can't say for sure which models will be getting it. If we do, we will update this article with the information.
