Samsung unveiled three new foldable phones today. They are the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Despite being the priciest of the three, all eyes are on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, as it rivals the world's thinnest and lightest foldable phones. So, how big and thin is it exactly?
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is just 8.9mm thin when it is folded and 4.2mm thin when it is fully open. It weighs just 215g. That makes it the world's lightest book-style foldable phone and the world's second thinnest foldable phone, just 0.1mm thicker than the Honog Magic V5.
It is a lot thinner and lighter than the original Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Galaxy Fold is 15.5mm thick and weighs 276g. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 12.1mm thick and weighs 239g.
Below is the comparison of the phone with other thin and light foldable phones from other brands.
To make the phone thinner, Samsung made several changes to the design and layout. It used reengineered components, a high-density logic board, and replaced carbon fiber with Grade 4 Titanium for the backplate. It also designed a waterdrop-shaped hinge (Armor FlexHinge) and a multi-rail structure to make the inner screen fold at a gentler angle, which helps reduce crease visibility.
Despite its thin and light design, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is strong and durable. Its frame is made using Advanced Armor Aluminum. Its cover screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, while the inner screen is protected by 50% thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). The back of the phone is protected using Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
