Galaxy A57 is official: Thinner, lighter, faster, but more expensive

Today is an exciting day for mid-range phone users and fans of the Galaxy A5x line, as Samsung has just unveiled its latest entry. Predictably called the Galaxy A57, the new model has a fairly steep hill to climb if it wants to match the Galaxy A56’s greatness. Has it succeeded?

It just might have, but it may have come at a price. Literally. More on that later, but credit where credit is due, the A57 brings a new chip, more storage, and a refined design with a thinner profile and slimmer bezels.

And as you might expect in the so-called AI era, the new A57 also introduces a handful of enhanced AI tools — though these shouldn’t be confused with generative Galaxy AI, which remains reserved for pricier devices

The Galaxy A57 ships with Android 16 and One UI 8.5. And thanks to the newer firmware, the mid-range Galaxy A57 shares at least one convenience feature with the premium Galaxy S26: easier access to AI Select via a simple long-press of the Edge Panel.

Another addition is Voice Transcription — not to be confused with Call Assist — which can convert voice recordings in the Voice Recorder app, as well as voicemail, into text.

The phone also includes Google’s enhanced Circle to Search, now with multi-object recognition, and of course, it offers Gemini integration.

Speaking of AI agents, the Galaxy A57 ships with the upgraded Bixby 4.0 assistant. It can change phone settings and help you stay organized using natural language commands.

At a glance, the Galaxy A57 looks similar to its predecessor, but that’s largely because it follows the same design language. Look closer, and a few meaningful refinements stand out.

For starters, this is the thinnest model since Samsung rebranded the lineup with the Galaxy A50 in 2019, measuring just 6.9mm.

It’s also among the lightest, weighing only 179 grams. The display bezels are thinner all around and more symmetrical along the top and sides, but the bottom bezel remains slightly thicker than the rest, leaving a visible “chin.”

The frame is made of metal, while both the back panel and display are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+. Color options include Awesome Navy, Awesome Gray, Awesome Icyblue, and Awesome Lilac.

Finally, the Galaxy A57 raises the bar for durability. It’s the first mid-range Galaxy A phone in over seven years to feature an IP68 rating, up from IP67 on previous models.

The Galaxy A57 will go on sale on April 10 in select markets, with a wider rollout to follow.

In Europe, the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage starts at €529.

Yes, that’s a price hike. The Galaxy A56 launched at €479 in Europe, so the new model comes in €50 higher.
