It seems that Samsung's move to use 200MP camera sensors was correct.

While iPhones currently rely on 48MP rear cameras, future models could switch to higher-resolution sensors. It was reported last year that iPhones could start using 200MP sensors in the future. However, back then, it wasn't revealed when this transition could happen. Now, a new report indicates that a 50MP to 200MP switch could happen within the next two years.
An investor note from Morgon Stanley (via Apple Insider) claims that the first iPhone with a 200MP camera could launch in 2028. It also reveals that Apple could use Samsung's 200MP sensors for future iPhones. If this analysis is correct, it would be a huge design win for Samsung. The South Korean firm recently bagged an order to supply 48MP ultrawide cameras for future iPhones.
If Apple switches to 200MP camera sensors for future iPhone models, it would prove that Samsung's move to 200MP camera sensors, starting with the Galaxy S23 Ultra in 2023, was the correct way forward.
A typical 200MP camera sensor isn't larger than 48MP cameras on current iPhones, but it offers higher resolution. This allows for more detail to be captured when it is paired with powerful chips and advanced multi-frame capture and noise reduction. It's unclear whether Apple will use existing 200MP sensors from Samsung or request a custom 200MP sensor.
