Samsung unveils its vision for semiconductor technology at the foundry forum

After seeing the rising demand for processor and memory chips, Samsung recently spun off its semiconductor chip manufacturing business into a separate entity. The company is concentrating on its SoC business and invested close to $1 billion in its Texas chip plant. Now, it is being reported that Samsung hosted a foundry forum earlier today to share its vision on the segment with its partner firms.

According to a report from The Korea Herald, Samsung shared its vision for the semiconductor market with local firms at Samsung Foundry Forum Korea 2017. The company expanded its ties with more businesses and partners amid the rising demand for semiconductor chips. Apart from smartphones and wearables, these chips are being used in Internet of Things (IoT)-compatible products, connected automobiles, and artificial intelligence solutions.

The South Korean semiconductor giant also announced that its 10nm FinFET technology is now stable and that it is now focussing on the 7nm fabrication technology. The company plans to start manufacturing 7nm chips soon. Samsung will also increase the memory chip production capacity at its plant in China. The company currently makes 14nm chips for AMD and 10nm chips for Qualcomm, but the latter will reportedly move to TSMC for its 7nm processors.
