Samsung has one of the world's widest ecosystems of products, ranging from phones and laptops to TVs, XR devices, and smart wine cellars. However, its devices run on a variety of operating systems, including Android, ChromeOS, Tizen, and Windows, and that makes it harder for the company to deliver a consistent user experience across its lineup.

After switching its smartwatches from Tizen to an Android-based platform a few years ago, the company is now reportedly planning to launch Galaxy Book laptops that run on Android-based software.

Some Galaxy Book laptops will run Android 17 and One UI 9

We have exclusively learned that Samsung is developing Galaxy Book laptops based on Android. These upcoming devices will run Android 17-based One UI 9 software.

The company already offers ChromeOS-based Galaxy Chromebooks, and it is likely to transition to Google’s upcoming version of ChromeOS, codenamed Aluminium OS, which is based on Android.

With One UI already running on the company’s phones, smartwatches, tablets, and TVs, laptops using the same design language could significantly improve UX consistency across devices.

Samsung is reportedly developing three versions of Android-based Galaxy Books: low-end, mid-range, and flagship models. The flagship version is said to feature a very sleek design. However, considering the popularity of the MacBook Neo, Samsung could adjust its design priorities.

The company’s upcoming laptops are also expected to include Galaxy AI features, which are currently available on its smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets. The software will likely feature an improved version of Samsung DeX for better productivity, and it should integrate well with DeX on Galaxy phones and tablets.
