The cost of thinness + a 200MP camera?

The Galaxy Z TriFold has already earned its rep as one of Samsung’s quirkiest state-of-the-art devices. It’s not your usual Galaxy phone — it’s… well, weirder, in the best way.
That’s exactly what I find appealing about it. The TriFold is a first-of-its-kind device, packed with oddball fun facts for Samsung fans. For instance, did you know it has three official thicknesses when unfolded? Each third of the phone measures differently.
But my favorite quirk? The TriFold is the first Samsung phone whose camera housing is thicker than the phone itself.
Yes, that’s only when it’s unfolded. Folded, it’s still a chunky 12.9mm — one of the thickest Samsung phones you can buy. But unfold it, and suddenly it’s astonishingly thin: just 3.9mm at its slimmest, so slim the camera bump could almost pass for an aftermarket add-on. Especially without a protective case wrapped around the device.
Samsung hasn't officially revealed just how thick the camera housing is, but its chunkiness next to the phone's profile is noticeable to the naked eye. It might catch you off guard if you're not used to it. And why would you be?
This is a first-of-its-kind phone. Thanks to its tri-fold design, this eccentricity is unique to the Galaxy Z TriFold. No other Samsung phone is thinner than its own camera bump, and for now, the TriFold series looks set to keep that exclusive claim.
Unfortunately, I probably won’t be able to get my hands on the Galaxy Z TriFold anytime soon. It just reached the USA, where it goes on sale in a few days, and I live across the pond.
Even if it were available here, it's not cheap. Still, I’ll be keeping an eye out for a global release, likely with the TriFold 2. Will the sequel be just as quirky? Probably, but only time will tell.
