Galaxy Z Flip 8 is the third Flip powered solely by an Exynos chip

If you were keeping your fingers crossed for a return to Snapdragon for the Galaxy Z Flip series with today's launch, you'll be disappointed.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 8 today and as expected, it's powered by the Exynos 2600 chipset. This is actually the third consecutive Galaxy Z Flip phone that is powered by Exynos.

Samsung shifted to the Exynos chipset for its clamshell foldables last year. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE was equipped with the Exynos 2400 chipset, which provided the “budget” device with Galaxy S24-like performance.

Last year's flagship also moved to Samsung's homegrown solution. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 was powered by the Exynos 2500, making it the first flagship Galaxy Z Flip phone to run on an Exynos processor.

It's a similar story this time around with the Galaxy Z Flip 8 being powered by the Exynos 2600 in all regions across the globe. So even though Samsung is utilizing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra, it's stick with Exynos for the clamshell foldable.

That's not to say the Exynos 2600 isn't a capable chipset. Samsung has already proven how good it is on both the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ released earlier this year. Its decision to stick with Exynos for the third consecutive model just goes to show the shift in strategy, particularly during a period where memory chip prices are through the roof.

At least buying a chipset from its own semiconductor division would help Samsung MX preserve some margin on the device instead of also having to pay more to Qualcomm for a competing chipset.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 are open today with the handset being released on August 7.
