After using the S Pen in every way possible with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, we made a video about the top ten things you can do with it on the smartphone. However, there's one thing we never tried doing with the S Pen: sniffing it to know how it smells. Why would anyone, right?
Well, a user on Reddit, LatifYil, has, and the observation they made has gotten everyone to sniff the S-Pen on their Galaxy S2X Ultra and Note series phones.
The user says the S Pen with the Galaxy S24 Ultra “absolutely reeks.” They say it smells like it is “being barbequed by the internals.” People in the comments section also made the same observation. That got me to sniff the S Pen on our Galaxy S23 Ultra, and I agree, it smells like burnt plastic, but it didn't smell bad.
The S Pen may smell that way because the heat generated by the Galaxy S24 Ultra's internals is cooking the S Pen's plastic shell. A moderator on Samsung's Community Forum for Europe also points out the same thing. However, they say it is normal and not a matter of concern.
So, no, you don't have to worry that your S Pen's condition is deteriorating. However, sniffing your S Pen will not be a pleasant affair. You may want to check out our in-depth S Pen tips video below.
